One of my favorites and quite an unforgettable experience I’ve done during my visit in Manila was the high tea at the Writers Bar at Raffles Hotel in Makati. I wanted to catch up with my cousins and this was the best place to spend an afternoon of bonding with the girls.
Raffles is a legendary five–star hotel in Singapore. It was established by two Armenian brothers in 1887. It is the most famous hotel in Singapore with its colonial style architecture. I was surprised to find out that there is also a Raffles in the Philippines (Makati district), although the architecture is much more modern and does not resemble the one in Singapore. However, the romantic ambience at the Writers Bar definitely made up for the absence of Makati’s old world colonial charm that Raffles Singapore was known for.
The high tea came with 4 types of finger sandwiches- smoked salmon, grilled yellow pepper veggie, foccacia, and a toasted baguette topped with cheese and jam. I had the Paris tea, Cristina had Earl Grey and Carmella had chamomile.
It took a while before our sweets came. But it was well worth the wait. It was presented in three-tiered plates, each pastry was intricately decorated in a Kate Spade fashion. As expected it was met with “oohs” and ‘aahs’ and we spent a long time trying to capture the best shots. We laughed at our silliness for not wanting to eat any of it as it might get ruined.
The piano was playing as we devoured on the delicous pastries. After a few hours at the Writers Bar, we ended our very glamorous afternoon tea with a Kate Spade New York twist.
